At Least They Are Out There...

Back at the turn of the millennium I was VP of a start-up company in northern California and spending way too much time in “start-up” mode to do anything else. Looking out my second floor window with Brian, my Director of Business Development, we saw two bicyclists on old clunker bikes. We lamented the fact that we weren't out there too . I once commuted 46 miles round trip to work on my bike and Brian was on the senior team for Eddy Merckx. Simultaneously a single thought came to our minds: “at least they are out there...!” Fast-forward to today. From my vantage point on dry-land I see, out on the harbor, a couple of paddlers in tubby “rec boats” with the typical “laid-back-no-torso-rotation” bad form. Back in my serious bicycling days, I was once snobby about good technique and gear, but not now... At least they are out there!
